Zulu Empowerment Trip - October 2010
Volunteer trip into KwaZulu-Natal to work with the Rural Woman's Movement
Photos by Linda N.
"Never, never, in a million years would I have imagined to be so impressed, so mystified, so in love with these Zulu women and children, and most of all with the founder of the Rural Women's Movement, Sizani, who has become my sister. There are not words to explain the transformation you will experience upon meeting them. And the truth is, they will do much more for you than you will ever be able to do for them.
I was so impressed that I am presently making a video of my experience that everyone will be able to see on youtube.com soon. I thought this would be a once in the lifetime experience and even told my new sisters that I would not return. But, now I know I will not be able to stay away for long.
And, rest assured that Pat Walker of the Cultural Explorer will bend over backwards to make you comfortable and happy on this wonderful trip!"

What our travelers say:
"Thank you so much for introducing us to South Africa. You saw to it that we were exposed to a little bit of everything with great humor. The trip was better than we could have hoped for!"
Holly
"This has been a wonderful trip to South Africa! You truly helped us to meet the people and our lives are enriched by this particular trip. Every day has been an adventure."
Anita
"We met with South African people from all walks of life and saw how they lived on a day to day basis. Accompanied by knowledgeable and professional local guides we traversed from Johannesburg to Cape Town.
We toured numerous townships, met with Zulus in their homes, visited with kids in orphanages, climbed the beautiful mountains of the Drakensberg, and learned about Apartheid from varying perspectives and saw the impact it still has on life today — all the while being surrounded by diverse and breathtaking scenery and landscapes. I truly commend The Cultural Explorer - everything was top notch. A once in a lifetime experience."
Maxine
"I saw things in South Africa that I have never seen anywhere else on the planet...the golden skies and lush green of the Drankensburg (my favorite part) ...the sprawling city of Soweto ...so many people were warm and friendly and made you feel welcome...seeing the penguins in Simons Town and running on horseback with the wild herd of giraffe, wilde beast and zebra was another highlight. The Bushman culture came alive for me at Didima."
Jean
"What an experience. We were stunned by what we saw. From the poverty of the townships to the vast, scenic beauty of the country. We will never forget our trip to South Africa with The Cultural Explorer. We are still talking about it."
Don and Sylvia
"The two weeks we spent in South Africa with you were unforgettable-- it's hard to say which days were most memorable. We continue to replay the magnificent scenes of ALL the animals in their natural habitat and the wonderful camps and lodges we visited-- great and comfortable accommodations with superb staffs.
Also the dramatically different regions of geography and topography that South Africa offers, along with the interesting and changing cultures to which you exposed us. The highlight, perhaps, was the fact that we rarely saw any tour buses, which means we saw the real South Africa!"
